Cllr Shipp MH clock room close

Clocking off at Moyse's Hall Museum

Tuesday 15 July 2025

The historic collection of clocks at Moyse’s Hall Museum will temporarily be off display this summer to enable phased work to take place including redecoration and new displays.

The clock room will be closed from Monday 14 July to Monday 18 August and the collection will be moved to safe and secure spaces onsite.

During this time, heritage staff will research the more than 100 timepieces, most from Gershom Parkington collection, up-close. All findings will be shared across the museum’s social media profiles.

The second phase of work, scheduled for a later date, will see new cases, watch drawers and digital display added. The renovations and new displays are being supported by the Gersham Parkington Bequest.

Visitors will be able to continue to enjoy the museum’s other collections including:

  • West Suffolk’s infamous Crime and Punishment displays with a book bound in human skin, witchcraft, and more
  • The history of the Abbey and our treasures of the medieval period
  • A rotating display of our fine art collection which includes Mary Beale and Sybil Andrews
  • Suffolk Regiment displays

And don’t forget to visit the museum’s resident summer exhibition – Prehistoric Beasts: Land, Sea, Sky.
