This exhibition celebrates the 170th anniversary of the opening of Bury St Edmunds Railway Station and the 25th anniversary of the death of the renowned railway poster designer Sybil Andrews.
It will reveal the lives and memories of passengers and workers forged at the station in particular the women who worked there in the 19th and 20th centuries. It will include original railway posters by Sybil Andrews and historic railway photographs and artefacts, many on public display for the first time and kindly loaned by members of the public.
The exhibition was conceived and curated by Smiths Row and has been primarily funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund made possible by money raised by National Lottery players as well as locality funding from Cllr Julia Wakelam of St Edmundsbury Borough Council and in-kind support from Greater Anglia, St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Moyse’s Hall Museum and The Station Supporters Group.
